  • Music career: Before his conviction, Watkins was the frontman of the Lostprophets, an internationally successful rock band.
  • Criminal charges: In 2013, Watkins pleaded guilty to 13 sex offenses, including the attempted rape of a baby.
  • Sentencing: He was sentenced to 29 years in prison, with an additional 6 years on an extended license. The judge stated that Watkins had “plumbed new depths of depravity”.
  • Additional charges: In 2019, his sentence was extended by 10 months after he was caught with a mobile phone in prison.

Potential for confusion

It is important to distinguish this individual from another prominent Welsh entertainer with a similar name, Ian “H” Watkins, the singer from the pop group Steps. The pop singer has been the victim of misidentification in the past and is a different person from the former Lostprophets frontman.
