  • Addressed relations with Europe: Putin accused European nations of fueling the conflict in Ukraine and threatened a “significant” and swift response to the continent’s increased militarization.
  • Mocked former U.S. President Trump’s remarks: Responding to Trump’s description of Russia as a “paper tiger,” Putin retorted that Russia was fighting against the entire NATO bloc and urged Trump to “go and deal with this paper tiger”. 

2025 Russia–United States Summit (August 15, 2025)

  • Held in Alaska: Putin met with former U.S. President Donald Trump at Joint Base Elmendorf–Richardson in Anchorage. It was Putin’s first visit to a Western country since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
  • No agreement announced: The summit, which focused on the war in Ukraine, ended without a formal agreement. Trump later suggested that Ukraine should cede territory to end the war.
  • ICC arrest warrant: Putin’s visit proceeded despite an outstanding International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant issued in 2023 for alleged war crimes in Ukraine, specifically the unlawful deportation of children.
